Install the chat widget
Add the Pingu chat widget to any website with one line of code.
Updated Aug 27, 2026
The chat widget is the chat bubble your visitors see. You add it once, and it appears on every page that loads the code.
Before you start
- A Pingu account. See Create your account and log in.
- A widget. See Create a chat widget.
- Access to edit your website's HTML, or admin access to your WordPress site.
Add the code to your website
-
Log in to the dashboard and open Widget Manager.
-
Select your widget and copy its embed code. It looks like this:
<script src="https://admin.pingu.chat/loader.js?widgetId=YOUR_WIDGET_ID" data-api-url="https://api.pingu.chat" defer ></script> -
Paste the code just before the closing
</body>tag on every page where you want the chat to appear. On most sites that means the shared footer or layout template. -
Publish your changes and open your website. The chat bubble appears in the bottom corner.
Use the code from your own dashboard. YOUR_WIDGET_ID is a placeholder and won't load a widget.
Install on WordPress
If your site runs on WordPress, use the Pingu WordPress plugin instead of editing theme files. It adds the widget for you and works with caching plugins.
Check that it works
Open your website in a private browser window and send a test message. You should see the conversation appear under Live Conversations in the dashboard and in the Pingu mobile app.
If the bubble doesn't appear, see The chat widget doesn't show on my website.
